The "Cat in the Hat" TikTok Trend is a Hoax
The Madison County School District is warning students, parents, and community members about a widespread social media trend circulating on TikTok and Snapchat featuring AI-generated horror images of the "Cat in the Hat". While these posts aim to cause fear and disruption by targeting local schools and individual students, these threats are false.
WHAT IS THE TREND?
AI-Generated Images: Edited and artificially created horror imagery depicting the character.
Targeted Messages: Posts that mention specific schools, communities, or students.
Disruption & Fear: Content designed to intimidate and cause panic in classrooms.
THE CONSEQUENCES ARE REAL
Even if a post is intended as a joke or prank, creating or re-sharing threatening content carries severe real-world penalties:
Criminal Charges: Making threats is a FELONY under Florida Law.
School Expulsion: The district maintains a Zero Tolerance Policy, resulting in immediate suspension and expulsion.
Legal Record: An arrest or conviction creates a permanent criminal record that will impact future educational and employment opportunities.
WHAT YOU MUST DO
For Students:
DO NOT SHARE OR REPOST any threatening messages, images, or rumors.
TAKE A SCREENSHOT of any post or message containing threats to preserve evidence.
REPORT IMMEDIATELY to a school administrator or your School Resource Officer (SRO).
For Parents:
MONITOR YOUR CHILD'S SOCIAL MEDIA and discuss their online activities.
DISCUSS THE SERIOUSNESS of posting or sharing online threats.

Dear Students and Parents,
This is a reminder that 9th and 10th grade Progress Monitoring #1 testing will take place on Thursday, August 20.
Important Testing Guidelines & Electronic Device Policy
To ensure a secure testing environment and adhere to state testing regulations:
1. No Cell Phones or Smartwatches: Electronic devices of any kind (including cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and Bluetooth devices) are strictly prohibited in the testing room.
2. Strong Recommendation: We strongly encourage students to leave all phones and smartwatches at home on Thursday, August 20, to prevent any accidental testing violations or delays.
3. Possession Rules: If a student is found with an electronic device in their possession during testing, their test will be invalidated.
Preparation Checklist for Students:
1. Get a good night’s rest on Wednesday night.
2. Eat a healthy breakfast on Thursday morning.
3. Arrive on time for school.

Attention JMPHS Students, Parents, and Staff:
As we prepare for a successful school year, we want to remind everyone of the JMPHS Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy. Our goal is to maintain a focused, safe, and engaging learning environment for all students.
📱 Key Rules & Expectations
When Devices Must Be Off: All cell phones and wireless devices must be turned off completely and stored out of sight for the entire school day, except during your assigned lunch period.
Where to Store Devices: Devices must be securely kept in a backpack, purse, or personal vehicle. Storing devices in pants, jacket, or hoodie pockets is not permitted. Teachers may also provide a designated cell phone storage area inside the classroom.
Prohibited Devices: The policy applies to cell phones, earbuds/headphones, tablets, smartwatches, and smart glasses. Because smartwatches and smart glasses can text, browse the internet, and take photos, they are restricted under the exact same rules as smartphones.
Earbuds & Headphones: Earbuds and earpieces may not be worn or used during the school day.
⚠️ Important Policy Details
Prohibited Actions: Texting, web browsing, recording audio, or taking photos/videos without permission during the school day is strictly forbidden. Any inappropriate use, harassment, or infringement on others' rights will result in disciplinary action.
Searches & Confiscation: Devices used in violation of school rules or the Code of Conduct may be confiscated. If reasonable suspicion exists, administration reserves the right to search device call logs, messages, and photos as part of an investigation. Repeated violations may result in losing the privilege to bring devices to school.
School Liability: JMPHS is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices brought onto school property. Students are strongly encouraged to leave valuable devices at home.
